THE CORRUGATED
BOARD IN 2007
Corrugated Board sales
soared 3.3% in 2007,
amounting 2,250 thousand
tons. Such growth is
the result of the combination
of two factors: a) improvement
of the internal market;
b) continuing deliveries
to industries exporters
of meat, fruit and tobacco
leaf.
In the first quarter
the industry registered
growth of 3.4% compared
to the first quarter
of 2006. The fruit export
industry had major impact
in our sales.
The second quarter was
our best, with sales
8.3% higher than the
same period in 2006.
In this quarter the
internal market initiated
its positive movement,
especially in the sectors
related to hygiene and
cleanliness. Additionally,
deliveries to tobacco
leaf exporters were
greatly improved.
The third quarter, which
historically is the
best, recorded weaker
sales if compared to
the previous quarter,
reflecting a decrease
of the internal market
movement. Sales were,
however, 2.3% higher
than the third quarter
of 2006.
Thus, the industry ended
2007 with growth of
3.3%, within our expectations,
which were of 3% to
5% at the beginning
of the year.
